16 Day Big Cats & Wildebeest Migration Photo Tour

• 16 days of watching and following big cats and the wildebeest migration between early July to Oct. 4 nights in Samburu National Reserve, 2 nights each in Ol Pejeta Conservancy & Lake Nakuru National Parks and 7 nights in Masai Mara National Reserve. • Accommodation in Mara will be chosen depending on your dates and the location of the wildebeest, also depending with the number photographers we may opt to stay in a private mobile-tented camp. • The tour fits well for new to profession wildlife photographer as well as other family members who are not into photography.

Day 1: Nairobi- Samburu National Reserve

Arrive early in the morning at Nairobi’s JKI Airport or be picked up early in the morning from your hotel and transfer to Samburu National Reserve. (It’s recommended to arrive the previous night for ample rest time before embarking on our epic big mammals photo tour. Hotel room previous night could be arranged)

After breakfast, we’ll pass through pineapple plantations in Thika and coffee farms and later cross the open plains between the Mt. Kenya and Aberdare Ranges arriving at Samburu National Reserve for lunch. We’ll spend the next 4 nights here and the game drive should take us through to  Samburu &  Buffalo Springs National Reserves.

After lunch a rest and later drive our for our first game drive lasting till 1830hrs

Day 2/3/4: Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve

Big Game here includes species well restricted to the arid conditions and nearly north of Equator such as Gravy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk among large herds of Elephants, Impalas, Grant’s and Thompson’s Gazelles.

Vulturine Guineafowl is a species we hope not to miss. The Samburu tribesmen (closely resembling and sharing the Maa language with Masai) inhabits the area and a visit to their homestead is a treat to remember.

Day 5 : Samburu National Reserve – Ol Pejeta Conservancy

After an early morning, breakfast and enroute game drive and transfer to the largest Black Rhino sanctuary in East Africa known as Ol Pejeta Wildlife Conservancy. Arrive for lunch and gamedrive in the afternoon.

Our tented camp, a sheltered oasis, clustered around a water hole and set in the pristine calm of the private conservancy, Sweetwaters Serena Camp offers a charming blend of under-canvas ambiance and Kenyan safari luxury.

Day 6 : Ol Pejeta Conservancy

We spend the whole day out on game drive photographing wildlife

Day 7: Ol Pejeta conservancy -Lake Nakuru National Park

Early morning gamedrive and later after breakfast transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park arriving for lunch in a lodge located on the hills.

Afternoon game drive through park famous for waterbirds.

The park hosts a great variety of mammals including the Lion, Leopard, Black & White Rhinos, large herds of Cape Buffalo, Common Waterbuck among other herbivores.

Day 8: Lake Nakuru National Park

Spend the day birding and photographing in the park.

Day 9: Lake Nakuru National Park - Masai Mara National Reserve

After early morning breakfast, we’ll head to our final destination, Masai Mara National Reserve where we’ll spend our next 7 nights in the central part of the reserve not far from the banks of the Mara River in a luxurious tented camp.

We chose the accommodation depending on the time and the location of the wildebeest migration

Overnight at a Matira Bush Camp

Day 10-15: Masai Mara National Reserve

 In the camp’s forest, a flock of both the Shallow’s and Ross’s Turacos may appear and herds of large mammals may be well visible from the dining area. During the famous Wildebeest migration, the big herds fill the area and you may frequently encounter large cats such as Lions, Hyenas, and Cheetah.

Here we may also opt to take a bird’s eye view balloon flight over the plains and wildlife of Masai Mara.

Day 16: Masai Mara – Nairobi

We take a morning game drive and after breakfast transfer to Nairobi en route for a visit to a Masai Village.

On arrival to Nairobi visit Giraffe Centre and Kazuri Beads Factory with a dinner later at Carnivore Restaurant before transfer to the airport for your outbound flight.

The Cost is Inclusive of:

  • Transport with exclusive use of the safari van.
  • Pick up and drop off on arrival and departure at the airport.
  • Fullboard accommodation and an extra lunch
  • -Services of an English speaking safari guide.
  • Parks, reserve and conservation areas entry fee including tracking permit
